South Asian Regional Conference: Responding to the Needs of out of school Adolescents - Experiences of South Asian Countries 1-3 march 2011

Today the 2 participants who will attend the South Asian Regional Conference: Responding to the Needs of out of school Adolescents - Experiences of South Asian Countries 1-3 march 2011 left to India.
The participants from Maldives are the UNESCO Maldives National Commissions Secretary General    Ms Jameela Ali Khalid and Deputy Executive Officer of Maldives Polytechnic Mr Mohamed Hashim.


Organisers :

UNESCO New Delhi in collaboration with Plan India  has decided to hold a South Asian Conference to deliberate upon further work on Goal III ( Ensuring that the learning needs of all young people and adults are met through equitable access to appropriate learning and life skills programs)


 Objective:
The overall objective of the conference will be to contribute to the thinking on Goal 3 of EFA Goals using the experiences /learning of existing governmental/non governmental efforts in the South Asian Region

The issues being addressed include;
 (1) quality education of adolescent girls including opportunities for complete schooling, focusing on their transition from primary to post and pathways between formal and non formal education;
(2) improvement in adolescent girls’ health, information and services, including life skills and reproductive health;
(3) safety of adolescent girls - free from violence abuse and exploitation, providing them prompt protection, services and access to justice;
(4) promotion of adolescent girl leaders supported by mentors and resources to participate in community life and;
(5) work with partners to collect, analyse and use data on adolescent girls to advocate for, develop and monitor their rights. All agencies will work in a coordinated manner with other relevant global initiatives.
